Floral Bethioua Raglan

Bethioua 1

One of my favorite things that I’ve made recently is my french terry Bethioua raglan. I love it and wear it all the time. The only drawback to that sweatshirt is that the fabric tends to get stretched out over the course of the day since it doesn’t have any spandex in it. I was curious how I would like a cotton/spandex version and it turns out I love it!

I didn’t change anything from my last one as far as sizing but I did sew this with a slightly larger seam allowance. The pattern calls for a 1/4″ SA but I sewed this with a 3/8″ SA. I can comfortably wear a t-shirt under my french terry version and I wanted this to be a little smaller since I knew I wouldn’t layer anything under it.

I used this Art Gallery Fabrics knit. I completely love the floral print! It feels so bright and cheery. The jersey knit isn’t as drapey as the french terry I used previously and I feel like the shoulder darts are not the greatest on this one. It’s probably not noticeable to anyone but me (especially if my hair is down) but I think I need to try to angle them forward if I make this top again. I usually don’t have to worry about forward shoulder adjustments on raglan tops but the shoulder darts are sitting too far back and the tip of the dart is kind of pointy because it’s not hitting at the highest part of my shoulder.

This pattern is so fun to sew and I really feel great wearing it. I think it’s perfect with jeans and it kind of dresses up my Hudson pants when I feel like being super casual.

The back sleeve/yoke is such a great detail! I love having this shirt in my wardrobe. Hopefully you’re not too sick of seeing all the t-shirts that I’ve been making because I have some Lark tees to show off once I get photos taken. I am currently working on a muslin of an actual dress– it’s been so long since I sewed a new pattern that required a muslin and fitting adjustments. I’m feeling a little rusty but I’m excited about my new dress!

Have a great day!
