I know I’ve posted about lots of Washi Dresses, but I realized this week I haven’t shared my favorite one yet. I made this dress last fall and it’s gotten a lot of wear. I made it from the famous dotted chambray from Robert Kaufman’s Chambray Union collection. I really love this fabric. It’s lightweight and perfect for this pattern. You really can’t go wrong with chambray, in my humble opinion.
I made this Washi with the same modifications I always make. It’s a size medium graded to a large through the hips. I scooped out the armscye a little bit to compensate for my horrible posture forward shoulders.
One of my favorite things about this dress is the lining. I think this was the first time I’d ever lined a dress and I really had no idea what fabric to use. I found this amazing Anna Maria Horner voile and decided to use it. Now, why I would use such a fun fabric on the inside of a dress is something I’ve wondered about many times since making this dress.
If the lining was about an inch and a half longer this could be a reversible dress. (Note to self, try to make next Washi reversible. Ha, ha!) I do have some of this voile leftover but I still haven’t decided what to make from it. Whatever it is, the fabric won’t be hidden on the inside where no one can see it!

The chambray dots are so nice, and as I was scrolling down I totally thought it was going to be reversible. Love that lining!

I love this dress. I have made 2 washi’s that I absolutely love and I have wanted to make a lined one but haven’t figured out how because of the shirring in the back. Could you let me know how you did it or if there is a tutorial that I can follow? I would really appreciate it Thanks.

Yes, there is a series of video tutorials that Rae posted on her site. This is what I used when I did the lining on this dress. Here is the link: http://www.made-by-rae.com/2012/08/washi-dress-bodice-lining-video-tutorials/
